CAMP, Mary CAMP 1933 – 2025 It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Mary (Mia) Camp, at the age of 92.
Mary passed away peacefully on August 29, 2025 at St. Therese Villa after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Hank, on June 16, 2023.
Mary is survived by her three daughters and their families:
Terry and Don Noss and their children Brianne and Brad.
Deb and Doug Kitaguchi and their children Courtney and Riely Blinco (Kennedy and Weston) and Chelsey and Evan Deitz (Isabelle and Oliver). Natalie Stevenson and her children Scott and Hailee Stevenson and Nicole and Matt Koenig.
Mary was born in Maastricht, Limburg, the Netherlands on March 27, 1933 to Theodore and Teresa Thys. She was the oldest of three children.
In 1951, when Mary was 18 years old, her father made the decision to immigrate to Canada. She worked as an LPN at the Magrath Hospital for two years. Hank followed her to Canada soon after and they were married in Magrath on May 22, 1954.
Mary spent several years being a homemaker and raising their three children. She had a natural gift of being very creative. From a young age, she sewed a lot of her own clothes as well as for her daughters when they were young. She expanded her sewing skills to other articles for their home, as well as knitting and crocheting many items. She enjoyed being creative and had a natural eye for color and design. This led her to find her passion in art and attend the University of Lethbridge for five years to obtain an art degree. From this training, she created hundreds of paintings and drawings, some of which she generously donated to the Chinook Regional Hospital and to St. Therese, where she lived for the past six years. She also enjoyed making ceramics, designing porcelain dolls and creating silk flower arrangements.
Due to Hank’s career, they lived in several locations including Oakville, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Nevada, California and South Carolina, eventually retiring in Lethbridge.
Mary and Hank were able to travel extensively to many locations around the world, as well as being snowbirds for 17 years in Yuma, Arizona.
The family would like to thank CRH 4A, the staff at St. Therese, Melissa and Danielle from Home Care, and the doctors at Family Medical Centre, especially Dr. Wayne Burton, for their years of compassion and care given to Hank and Mary.
A private service will be held at a later date. Mary will be laid to rest in the Magrath Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Hank, where they will be “together forever”.
