By Lethbridge Herald Obituaries on November 29, 2025.
BROWNLEE, Brian BRIAN GENE BROWNLEE June 16, 1945 – November 12, 2025 After a brief and painless bout of cancer, Brian died peacefully in his sleep and left his family and friends to mourn the passing of this kind, helpful, much-loved man, who relished talking at length with colleagues, friends, relatives, and strangers alike. He participated on several scientific teams during his professional career, tackled technical problems for friends outside of it, maintained far-flung friendships for decades, door-knocked for his local Conservative candidates, and was generally ready to chat at the drop of a hat. He leaves Linda, his wife of 57 years; daughter, Shannon (Andrew) of Halifax; son, David (Lisa); grandsons, Thomas and Simon of Montreal; sister, Myrna Lemay (Paul) of Grande Prairie; brother, Ray (Karen) of Lethbridge; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Virginia and Elmer Brownlee.
Born in Lethbridge, Brian grew up on the family farm in the Lucky Strike district east of Milk River with his older sister and younger brother. An avid builder as a child, he was introduced at an early age to farm work and the creative problem-solving skills that come with it. Academically, he was an excellent student and also developed a life-long interest in politics as president of his high school’s student council. He did a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry at the University of Alberta, during which time he met his future wife, Linda. They were married in 1968 and moved to Fredericton, NB for three years, where Brian completed a PhD in organic chemistry at the University of New Brunswick. After another move to Hamilton, ON for two years of postdoctoral studies, in 1973 he became an Environment Canada research scientist at the Canada Centre for Inland Waters in Burlington, ON, a position he held for 31 years. Brian’s expertise was the detection and analysis of very low levels of organic compounds causing taste and odour in fresh water. Most summers he travelled with field teams, usually as the only chemist, to several parts of Canada, including Alberta’s oil sands, to collect water samples. Laboratory analyses and reports occupied the rest of the year. He loved both kinds of work but was also a devoted father to their two children born in Burlington. In the late 1970s, he became an enthusiast of home computing systems and built up an impressive expertise he was happy to share for the rest of his life with anyone who asked for help. Brian finished his career in Edmonton, where he and Linda had moved for their retirement. There he had a wonderful time auditing university courses, door-knocking at federal election times, volunteering as adjunct professor at the University of Alberta, and advising on technical problems at church and in condominium living. He also enjoyed visiting his grandchildren in Montreal and travelling in the U.S. and abroad.
The family wishes to extend their deep gratitude and appreciation to Dr. Clark and the entire team in the Palliative Care unit of the Edmonton General for their compassionate care. There will be no funeral at this time, and interment will take place in Vulcan, AB in summer 2026. Any donation to the Covenant Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

BORAS, Michael MICHAEL FRANK BORAS 1938 ~ 2025 MICHAEL FRANK BORAS of Coaldale, Alberta, beloved husband of the late Helena Dorothy Boras, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale, AB on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at the age of 87 years.
Dad was born on the farm near Raymond, Alberta March 12, 1938, fourth child of Angelo and Anika. His early years were spent on the farm in Raymond and later he moved to the farmstead just east of Coaldale, Alberta. He attended R.I. Baker School until grade 11 when he committed to working the family farm full-time. While attending school, Dad met the love of his life and future wife Dorothy. They were married in Coaldale June 4, 1966, and together raised 4 children. As their family grew, they enjoyed road trips to visit family and trips to Disneyland and the Okanagan. Mom and Dad enjoyed trips together, playing cards (especially crib), curling, and working in the yard. Curling was a big passion for Dad, winning many bonspiels and wowing everybody with his mastery of the stick. After the farm was sold, Dad continued to serve the farming community delivering fertilizer and helping many of his friends with harvest. In 1989, Mom and Dad built their retirement home in Coaldale, and he continued living there after Mom’s passing in 2004. Dad was forced to learn many household tasks. While never a gourmet chef, he managed to satisfy his appetite and always appreciated meals provided by others. Dad moved to Sunny South Lodge in 2021 where he was reunited with many of his old friends and made numerous new ones. His final months were challenging and the care he received at the Lodge was loving and compassionate. The staff often commented on how special Dad was and how much they enjoyed his salty sense of humour. Dad will be missed by many.
Michael will be lovingly remembered by his children and their families, daughter Judeth Boras and children Avalon (Quinton), Nicola (Dan), and Elexandra (Garrett); daughter Lorelei (Bill) Gridley and children Cody (Celeste), Christopher (Ashley), and Rebecca (Rhys); son Darren (Anthea) Boras and children Riley, Ailysh, and Shalyn (Alexandro); and daughter Donna Ramsum and children Sebastian, Aglician, and Gabrielle along with twelve great-grandchildren. Michael will also be lovingly remembered by his brother Ivan (Lydia) Boras, sister Helen (John deceased) Kovacs, brother-in-law Leo Rondeau and sister-in-law Deb Boras as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Michael was predeceased by the love of his life Helena Dorothy, parents Angelo and Anika Boras, sisters Jane Boras and Eve Rondeau, brother George Boras, and nieces Gail and Dawn Boras.
Dad will be laid to rest beside Mom in a private graveside service Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dad’s name to the Coaldale Granite Club, Sunny South Lodge or a charity of your choice.

BILLETT, Alan BILLETT It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear dad, husband & grandpa, Dr. ALAN T. BILLETT, of Lethbridge on November 26, 2025 at the age of 84 years old. He was surrounded by his family in his own home.
Dr. Al was a devoted husband to Barbara since their marriage in 1964.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Billett, their three kids – Debra (Les) Billett Greeno, James (Stephanie) Billett, and Lori (Colin) Billett Zieber. He was loved and felt close to all of his grandchildren – Michael (Emily) Greeno, Rylan (Kimberly) Greeno, Kailyn (Tyler) Wong, Rachel Greeno, Daniel Billett, Stormi Billett, Solara Billett, Laurel Zieber (Kahl Stickel), Annika Zieber (Evan Hansen), Johanna Zieber and Bennett Zieber. Much joy was brought to him by his great grandkids – JJ, Nash & Ellie Greeno, Amber, Mataya & Sadie Greeno, Montana & Memphis Wong.
Dr. Al is also survived by his brothers and sister, Larry, Karen & John Billett (Danielle Goulet) and Barb’s siblings – Winston (Janet) South, Duncan (Maxine) South, Betty (Murray) Green & Marjorie (Glenn) Heisler. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his dad and mom, Thomas & Esther Billett – his sister-in-law, Vi Billett – and his father-in-law and mother-in law, Gordon and Mary South.
Dr. Al was born on October 8, 1941 in Eston, Saskatchewan to Tom and Esther Billett. He won awards for his clarinet musical performances and was able to help pay for his medical school by playing in dance bands. He was in his internship when he went on his first date with Barb, a registered nurse. They went to a movie, but he was so tired that he fell asleep in the middle of it. With a chuckle, he commented, “But she married me anyway.”
Barb and Alan moved to La Ronge, Saskatchewan with their young family to start Alan’s medical practice. Dr. Al’s motivation was to provide quality medical care to the Indigenous People surrounding that area. Bush pilots often flew him in to “fly in only” areas to assist in whatever way he was needed. Due to flying in terrifying conditions with these pilots, he became a pilot himself just in case he ever needed to take over the controls. Dr. Al continued to fly into his 70’s.
After 7 years, Alan, Barbara & their 3 kids moved to Lethbridge. Dr. Al spent the rest of his career working at Bigelow Fowler Clinic South. He truly cared for his colleagues and patients over the many years at Bigelow Fowler Clinic South. He was a mentor, father figure and friend to so many. He was 72 years old when he retired.
Dr. Al loved his family and made it his mission to instill in them a love of music and a solid sense of rhythm. Dr. Al also made it a priority to teach his kids to appreciate humour and laughter. With syncopated rhythms and offbeat humour, the Billett home was filled with laughter and music.
Above all else, Dr. Al demonstrated the love of Jesus to everyone around him. He was kind and gracious, not easily offended and he loved people.
We believe Dr. Al is now in heaven – visiting and joking with those who have gone before him, joining in the highest quality big band, and giving hugs to those whom we miss so much.
Special thanks to LeAnn Esau, Isabel Crown and all of his incredible caregivers who helped to keep him in his own home until the end.
A private Family Service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation or the Lethbridge Pregnancy Care Centre.
Arrangements to be made by Cornerstone Funeral Home.
