GERGELY, Tibor “Ted” TIBOR “TED” GERGELY 1944 ~ 2025 MR. TED GERGELY of Coaldale, Alberta, beloved husband of Joyce Gergely, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Lethbridge, Alberta, on December 6, 2025, just days shy of his 81st birthday.
Ted is survived by Joyce, his wife of 58 years, his daughter Carri (Andy), his son Kevin (Suzanne), and his grandchildren Allyson (Tyler), Chelsea, and Ethan. Sadly, he lost his daughter Terri Anne in 2017, who shared his December 29th birthday.
He is also survived by brothers John (Pat) and Zoltan, as well as Joyce’s family: Barb (George), Donna (Larry), Elaine and Terry (Judy). Also surviving him are numerous nieces, nephews, and their children on both sides of the family.
Ted was born December 29, 1944, in Magrath, Alberta, the second child of John and Mary Gergely, who were of Hungarian descent. When he was 3 years old, the family moved to the Jail Road area near Coaldale, where he remained for the rest of his life. He attended school in Coaldale, and as a child, he and his brothers helped tend sugar beets; they were a rowdy bunch and often in trouble. In his teenage years, he was active in the Lethbridge-Coaldale 4-H Club, modified and raced stock cars with his brothers, participated in local tractor pulls, and often walked home from local dances or parties.
Ted graduated from Olds Agricultural College in the spring of 1967 and then began working with the City of Lethbridge as a weed inspector. In November of that same year, he married Louisa Joyce Lacey; they established a small farm only a mile from the house he was raised in. He built the house from scratch and farmed sugar beets, wheat, and canola over the years while also running a cattle operation. He resided on the farm until his passing.
Ted and Joyce raised three kids together on the farm. They were always running to 4H meetings, kids’ sports, and horse lessons; yet, he still found time to curl in Coaldale Men’s League and attend Sugar Beet Growers meetings. Family time, while scarce in the summers, still meant fishing trips, camping, and skiing in the winter. He continued camping right up until this past fall. Ted was always willing to stop by to help out his brothers, who all lived just down the road. He was surrounded by family, and some of his most precious moments were spent watching his grandchildren grow up next door. Due to failing health over the last few years, he passed the tractor keys over to his son Kevin, who continues to farm on the same land.
Ted was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Gergely, brothers Steven Riethman and Bill Gergely, as well as in-laws Roy and Kate Lacey.
The family would like to express our gratitude to local healthcare workers who took such good care of Dad: Bernice at Jack Ady, Christina at Home Care, Dr. Roth and her Palliative team and the staff at St. Michael’s Palliative. The family also owes a huge debt of gratitude to Suzanne for her time and care of Dad these last few years.
A private family graveside service will be held.
Please join the family for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 20th, 2025, between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm at the Coaldale Community Centre. There will not be a formal program; please drop in as you are able.
Flowers gratefully declined. Please consider donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.

LESLIE, Fredrick “Fred” FREDRICK “FRED” ADAM LESLIE 1941 ~ 2025 FREDRICK “FRED” ADAM LESLIE, beloved husband of Mona Leslie, passed away after a lengthy illness at Chinook Regional Hospital on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at the age of 84 years.
He is survived by his wife Mona; daughters Michele (Aaron), Renee (Bob), Lisa (Rod), and Robin (Steve deceased); grandchildren (whom he bragged about when given the opportunity) Christopher (Melissa), Nathan (Rachelle), Katie, Alexander, Kelsey, Adam as well as his great grandson Freddy.
Born at the Galt Hospital on October 12, 1941, to Roy and Jessie (Holmes) Leslie, He was a proud “Northside Kid” who hiked the coulees and river bottom with friends whose friendships have continued throughout his life. As a young man he enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting.
Fred and Mona were married in 1963 and raised 4 daughters. Employed by the city of Lethbridge for nearly 35 years, he enjoyed the comradery of co-workers and especially the annual Christmas party.
As a family, there were camping trips nearly every weekend throughout the summer with BBQ’s and hot tubbing during the time at home. Fred was an accomplished woodworker and he and Mona, along with a couple of daughters, had a home-based craft company for about 25 years.
With the girls in their teens, Fred purchased a Honda Goldwing motorcycle and, with Mona, traveled to California, Victoria and many shorter trips until 1991 when they were they were forced off the road. From that point on, the grandchildren became the focus of attention. Camping trips, sleepovers and any occasion was an excuse for a family celebration. His woodworking resulted in custom furniture, toys and even oak wagons for his girls and grandchildren.
Heart surgery in 2013 slowed him down and sepsis in 2019 took away his mobility.
Fred is predeceased by his parents Roy and Jessie Leslie and his sister Dorothy.

PIONTEK, Doreen KIRK It is with sadness that we announce the passing of NEITA KIRK (nee Wickett) on Friday, December 5, 2025 at the age of 100 years.
Left to mourn are her children, Lachlan (Cecile), Leland, Cameron (Christina), Sandy (Mike), and Rod; as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Don; her sisters, Erbena and Jeanette; her brothers, Clarence, Donald, Marvin, and Wyman; and her daughter-in-law, Barb.
Neita was born in New Liskeard, Ontario to Fred and Sarah Wickett, the sixth of seven children. From early childhood, she loved the outdoors. Photos albums are filled with pictures of a young Neita hiking, tenting, climbing trees, riding bicycles, and picnicking, always with her family and friends.
It was during these early years that she started to develop her knack for making something from nothing. Whether cooking, sewing, knitting, or gardening, Neita was able to take a few simple things and turn them into something remarkable.
After a short time working as a school teacher, Neita discovered a new path and graduated from Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children Nursing School in 1948. She soon made her way to Peace River to work alongside her sister, Jeanette. It was in Peace River that she met Don Kirk, a young RCMP officer whose barracks were a short walk from the nurses’ residence.
Don and Neita married in 1952. A year later, the couple welcomed twins, Lachlan and Leland. As the RCMP took Don and Neita to communities across Alberta, the family grew. Cameron and Sandy were welcomed while posted in Hardisty, with Rod rounding out the family in Edmonton. After postings in Pincher Creek and Fort Macleod, the family would eventually settle in Lethbridge.
While living in Pincher Creek, Neita and Don saw a long-held dream made real by purchasing a parcel of land and building a family cabin beside the Castle River. Their children will forever remember the times at the cabin, with days spent hunting and fishing, hiking and horseback riding, swimming and berry picking. It was here that they, too, would develop a love of the outdoors.
Neita enjoyed gathering at the cabin with her family and friends, something she did even into her nineties. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are grateful to have grown up enjoying their own times at the cabin, many of which have included Neita, who was always up for a bit of fun. The cabin remains a place where family and friends meet and escape to the outdoors.
Neita’s life will be celebrated this summer at a gathering at the family cabin she loved so dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Good Samaritan West Highlands for the care they provided Neita.

BULVA, Thomas “Tom” BULVA July 25, 1943 – December 10, 2025 THOMAS “TOM” ANTHONY BULVA, of Picture Butte, beloved husband of Elsie Bulva, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at St. Michael’s Health Centre – Palliative Care Unit on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at the age of 82 years.
Tom was born in Barnwell, Alberta to Ivan and Mary (Yaksich) Bulva, the baby of four children. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to Iron Springs, where Tom started school, and grew up playing baseball, helping his dad and brothers on the farm and playing music. After meeting Elsie and getting married, they settled in Picture Butte, where they built a home and raised their family. Tom hired on with the County of Lethbridge in 1966 and dedicated himself to his work for 30 years, retiring in July of 1996 as the Assistant Superintendent of Public Works. Tom knew the roads and farms of the county like the back of his hand and took immense pride in what he had accomplished in his years building and maintaining its roads. Tom was a man of quiet strength and dedication, and showed his love in the acts of service he performed for his family and friends. He preferred pulling his trailer all over Canada and the United States to getting on a plane or seeing foreign places. He was most happy when he was camping; sitting in front of an open fire, sipping a Crown and coke, and reading a good old western. He earned the nickname ‘Tinker Tom’ because he was always putzing around in his garage or yard and would much rather spend days fixing something than replacing it with something new.
Besides his loving wife of 54 years, Elsie, Tom will be remembered by his children, Mark Bulva of Picture Butte and Stephanie (Kyle) Luce of Beaumont, Texas. His love and memory will also endure in the lives of those who loved him, including his grandsons, Troy (Allison) Luce and Thomas (Valerie) Luce, and great-grandchildren, Lane and Ada Luce, all of Bridge City, Texas, his “special” grandchildren, Victoria and Mason Dowhaniuk of Red Deer, Alberta, his great-great-niece Oliva Deboer, and all of his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, sister Anne (Bulva) Boras, brothers, John Bulva and Walter Joseph Bulva, nephew Kenny Bulva, and niece Patricia Petersen. We know he was loving greeted by his dog Neko, and his lifelong friends Nick Yalowega, Ivan Dowhaniuk and John Zubach.
A Prayer Service will be held at ST. CATHERINE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH, 762 Crescent Avenue, Picture Butte, AB, on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 7:00 P.M. with Father Iqbal Khurshid officiating.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at ST. CATHERINE’S CATHOLIC CHURCH on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Iqbal Khurshid celebrating. The Memorial Mass will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Tom’s obituary on the Cornerstone website.
Following the Memorial Mass, Tom will be laid to rest in Huntsville Cemetery, Iron Springs, AB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Alberta (alsab.ca)
