LIZZI, Curt LIZZI Curt Lizzi, caring husband, father, nonno, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 16th, 2026, after a hard-fought battle with Glioblastoma.
Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, the eldest of five siblings, he attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and later graduated from Catholic Central High School. Throughout his school years, he formed lasting friendships that remained strong for over 60 years.
Curt began his academic journey at Lakeland College before attending the University of Alberta, where he earned his degree in Geology. He started his career in the field he studied but soon discovered his true passion in the energy industry – specifically energy trading. Curt went on to build a long and successful career trading natural gas, later transitioning into business development. His work took him across the United States, where he spent many meaningful years in Dallas, Omaha, and Houston before ultimately returning home to Calgary.
It was back in Calgary where he met Leah, and together they built a beautiful life. They shared many passions, especially travel, embarking on worldwide adventures – first as a couple and later as a family after welcoming their twin boys, Erik and Marcus. In retirement, while raising the boys, Curt continued to pursue what he loved. On any given day, you would most likely find him enjoying the outdoors, reading books, listening to jazz records, or fixing bikes in the garage. Following one final move to Houston, the family returned home to Calgary in 2023 to spend cherished time with long-time friends and family.
A proud and loving father, Curt shared his children Mitch and Cara with Margot, and his twin sons Erik and Marcus with Leah. The mere mention of any of their names brought a smile to his face. Curt was an adventurer at heart and loved mountain biking, hiking, traveling, cooking, and exploring new hobbies – always eager to learn something new. He had an extraordinary gift for connecting with people. Curt loved meeting others and discovering their stories. His warmth, authenticity, and genuine curiosity made him a friend to all and a lasting presence in any room he entered.
Curt’s legacy lives on in his children, his family, and the countless people whose lives he enriched with his kindness, generosity, and curiosity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love and gratitude.
Curt is survived by his loving family: his wife of 15 years, Leah Lizzi (nee Schuett); his children, Mitch (Cori), Cara (Jesse), Erik, and Marcus; his granddaughters, Paige and Ava; and his former wife, Margot Nesbitt. He is also survived by his mother, Joyce Lizzi; his siblings, Gail, Diane (Bruce), Mark (Patti), and Brenda (Keith); and countless nieces and nephews who will forever remember him with love. He was predeceased by his father, Reno Lizzi.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 11th at 12 PM at the Italian Cultural Centre, 1511 St Edward Blvd N, Lethbridge, AB.

BAILEY, Elizabeth “Betty” BAILEY ELIZABETH ‘BETTY’ JANE BAILEY passed away the evening of Friday, February 20th, 2026, the greatest teacher, and mother, any of us could have ever hoped for.
Betty is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Jason) deBoer and granddaughters Ceili and Bridget; and son Sean (Shanna) Bailey and grandsons Connor and Ryder. Betty will be greatly missed by her family.
Teaching was what you were put on this Earth to do, and you taught all of us so many things, proper grammar, spelling, the War of 1812, and even the Dewey Decimal system, when that was still around. You tried to teach me about patience and understanding, even when it seemed like that wasn’t possible. You taught Jenn how to clean her room and pick up her stuff, even if that took longer than it should have. And it wasn’t just us, you were an educator to all of our friends, to those that stuck around and to those that moved on. As well as all of your students, which if my rough math is close, is probably over sixteen thousand kids, all said and done. A lot of them loved you, a lot of them liked you, and I’m sure a few of them “hated” you, but that never mattered, you treated everyone the same, you treated them fair and with respect, and maybe that’s the most important lesson of all.
At Betty’s request, no funeral service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Summer.
