The Lethbridge Lightning capped off a successful second year in the
Ranchland Hockey League with their annual awards banquet Friday at the
Lethbridge Legion.
Following a season that saw the Lightning go 16-4-0-0 in the regular
season, advance to the league final and eventually win a provincial
bronze medal, it only made sense to make this year’s MVP honour a
shared one and to give it to both goaltenders as Cole Schafer and
goaltender Alex Sirard got the nod.
Sirard went 8-1-0-0 this season with a 2.85 goals-against average and
a .733 save percentage. Schafer was 6-3-0-0 with a 4.08 goals-against
average, a .728 save percentage and one shutout.
In other Lightning awards Friday, Cole Matson won the Most
Sportsmanlike award and Shay Wirll earned the Team Leadership honour.
Laramie Kostelansky was recognized as the Lightning’s Rookie of the
Year, Nicholas Mottl was the Most Improved, Devery Edmonds won the Top
Defenceman award and Ashton Zintel was selected as the Most Community
Minded Player.
