Some curling talent with local ties is heading to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Lethbridge-born Taylor McDonald, second for the Laura Walker rink from the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, won the Sentinal Storage Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts Sunday afternoon in Okotoks.
Following a 7-0 round-robin, McDonald, Walker and third Kate Cameron and lead Nadine Scotland defeated fellow Saville club member Kelsey Rocque 7-4 in the final to earn their trip to Moose Jaw for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts Feb. 15-23.
Rocque, who finished second in the round-robin at 6-1, defeated St. Albert’s Krysta Hilker 8-1 in the semifinal Sunday morning.
In the 1-2 Page Playoff Saturday night, Walker beat Rocque 7-1 to advance to the final.
There were two Lethbridge rinks competing in Okotoks this past week.
Casey Scheidegger and her rink of third Care-Anne McTaggart, second Susan O’Connor and lead Kristie Moore as well as Jodi Vaughan and her foursome of third Jody McNabb, second Nicole Larson and lead Valerie Ekelund each went 2-5 in the round-robin.
McDonald previously played second for Rocque, winning gold at the 2014 World Junior Curling Championship as well as the 2017 Winter Universiade.
