University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s basketball team is on the verge of clinching a Canada West playoff spot with two weekends left in the regular season.
The Pronghorns, 7-9, sit in a four-way tie for ninth in the conference as they travel to Edmonton this weekend to play the Grant MacEwan Griffins.
The teams play tonight at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m. Games are available on http://www.canadawest.tv.
With the conference re-seeding the top 12 teams by RPI for the playoffs, the Pronghorns will need to win their final four games and get some help to host the opening round play-in game.
Led by a trio of seniors, Kacie Bosch leads in scoring with 15.8 points per game, which places her ninth in Canada West. With 10 points this weekend, Bosch will pass former teammate Zoe Dahl for 10th on the Pronghorns all-time scoring list.
Latvian guard Asnate Fomina sits second in scoring average with 14.7 points per game, while Lethbridge product Katie Keith leads the team in rebounding with 9.3 per game. Keith will finish her career as the Pronghorns second all-time leading rebounder and currently sits with 654 career rebounds.
The Griffins (2-14) enter the weekend on a 10-game losing streak.
Currently, the Griffins sit 15th in team offence, scoring 56.1 points per game and 16th defensively allowing 75.2 points against.
The Pronghorns will close out the regular season next weekend hosting the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
