The Lethbridge Headwater midget Hurricanes solidified their grip on second place in the Alberta Minor Midget Hockey League South Division with a three-point weekend.

The Hurricanes tied the Calgary NWCAA Bruins 1-1 Saturday in Calgary and returned to the Logan Boulet Arena Sunday to defeat the Medicine Hat SEAC Tigers 4-1.

The win and the tie improves the Canes to 22-3-5 and moves them five points ahead of the AC Avalanche (21-7-2) for second in the South Division and four points behind the 25-1-3 Okotoks Oilers.

On Sunday, a couple of affiliated players got the Hurricanes on the board as Ben Adserballe and Rylan Millo gave Lethbridge a 2-0 lead.

Caden Heins and Cole Wirun added the other Hurricanes goals and Malachai North Peigan chipped in with two assists.

Kaiden Fulton stopped 26 shots in the win.

In Calgary on Saturday the Hurricanes and Bruins swapped third-period goals as North Peigan scored Lethbridge’s goal and Nixon Ordway kicked aside 29 shots.

The Hurricanes are back at the Logan Boulet Arena this weekend for a pair of games.

On Saturday they take on the Calgary CRAA Blue at 3 p.m. and on Sunday Calgary CNHA Canucks are in town at 11:45 a.m.

In Alberta Midget Hockey League play, the Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes were 1-1 on the road, but clinched a playoff spot.

The Hurricanes doubled the Okotoks Bow Mark Oilers 4-2 Saturday, but were defeated 6-2 by the Calgary Flames.

The win and loss puts the Canes at 15-10-5 and tied for third with Okotoks and two points behind the Flames.

J.D. Hall, Colby Garner, Ian Maier and Derrien Tonin scored for the Hurricanes in Saturday’s win in Okotoks.

In goal, Ty Young stopped 26 shots.

The Hurricanes held a 2-0 lead after the first period on Sunday in Calgary, but the Flames replied with three goals in the second period and three more in the third to post the win.

Joel Mabin and Rylan Bruns were the Lethbridge goal scorers and Marek Andres made 28 saves.

The Hurricanes have one game this weekend as they travel to Airdrie Sunday to take on the Airdrie CFR Bisons.

The Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks had two games on the slate last weekend, but their game Sunday in Red Deer against the Rebels was postponed due to slick road conditions.

The Golden Hawks hosted the Calgary Royals Saturday at Nicholas Sheran Arena, losing 3-2 to sit at 8-19-0 and remain in fourth place in the Ram South Division.

Nathan Hawkins and Travis Hinkle scored for Golden Hawks Saturday.

Lethbridge is back home this weekend as the Lloydminster Bobcats visit Nicholas Sheran Saturday at 3 p.m. The Okotoks Oilers are in town Sunday at noon, also at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

The Lethbridge midget AA Hurricanes posted a win and a tie in South Central Hockey League play to move to 10-12-4 and fourth in the Southern Conference.

The Hurricanes beat the Foothills Bisons 7-1 Saturday and tied the Okotoks Oilers 5-5 on Sunday.

Luke Preddy scored the hat trick for the Canes on Saturday and Garrett Carlson, Ben Houenagnon, Conner Furukawa and Logan Kowal added singles.

Furukawa added two assists for a three-point night and Kowal had an assist for two points.

Alex Resler stopped 27 of 28 shots in the win.

On Sunday, the Canes scored twice in the third to erase a 5-3 deficit and secure the tie with the Oilers.

Syprus Ives, Furukawa, Brandon Creighton, R.J. Loo and Jayden Tsui scored for Lethbridge.

Creighton and Ives each had an assist for two points.

Jesse Schindel was in goal for the first two periods, stopping 14 of 19 shots. Resler came on in the third, making 11 saves.

The Hurricanes have one game at Henderson Arena this weekend.

They host the West Central Tigers Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
