Golden Hawks look to extend season

The Lethbridge Val Matteotti bantam AAA Golden Hawks will look to keep their season going tonight.

The Golden Hawks host the Red Deer Rebels in Game 2 of the teams’ opening round, best-of-three Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League series tonight at 7:45 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena.

The Rebels won Game 1 6-0 Tuesday night in Red Deer and can secure the sweep with a win tonight. The Rebels scored twice in each period to post the win.

Golden Hawks goaltender Brenner Fyfe made 29 saves.

The Rebels placed first in the AMBHL Ram South Division at 28-2-3. The Golden Hawks finished fourth with a regular season record of 11-22-0.

If necessary, Game 3 will take place Friday night in Red Deer at 7:45 p.m.

The Lethbridge midget AAA Hurricanes skate into the second round of Alberta Midget Hockey League playoffs tonight.

The Canes take on the Calgary Flames in Game 1 of the best-of-five series in Calgary at 7:30 p.m.

Game 2 is back at the Logan Boulet Arena Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

The Flames finished in second place in the AMHL South Division with a record of 19-8-5, four points ahead of the 17-10-5 Hurricanes.
