Hurricanes fall 2-0 to Cougars

Lethbridge Hurricanes ran into a hot goaltender and suffered a tough loss to open their three-game road trip through the B.C. Division in Western Hockey League play Wednesday night.

Taylor Gauthier made 37 saves to record the shutout as the Prince George Cougars skated to a 2-0 victory over the Hurricanes.

Mitchell Kohner snapped a scoreless tie 2:36 into the second period for the Cougars, and Vladislav Mikhalchuk netted the insurance marker on a Prince George power play with 38 seconds remaining in the game.

Bryan Thomson made 18 saves in the Canes’ goal.

Lethbridge was scoreless on five power play chances.

The Hurricanes fall to 37-17-2-5 and remain two points up on the Medicine Hat Tigers and six ahead of the Calgary Hitmen in the Central Division.

Prince George is now 18-34-4-4 and remain last in the B.C. Division.

The Hurricanes continue their road trip through the B.C. Division with games in Kamloops on Friday and Kelowna on Saturday. The Canes return home on Friday, March 13, when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings.
