Kodiak basketball teams open provincial play

The second season for the Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s basketball teams begins today.

The Kodiaks men’s team is in Edmonton for the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference championship, while the Kodiak women head down to the road to Medicine Hat.

Following their 20-1 regular season that earned them first place in the ACAC South Division, the Kodiak men open against the NAIT Ooks, ranked fourth in the North Division at 14-10, at 6 p.m.

The Kodiaks finished the regular season on a five-game winning streak and are ranked second in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Kodiak women head into provincials ranked third in the South, coming off a 12-9 regular season.

They’ll open today at 1 p.m. against the Lakeland Rustlers, ranked second in the North Division at 19-5.

The Kodiaks earned their provincial berth with a 2-0 sweep over the Briercrest Clippers two weekends ago at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
