After six seasons in the Canadian Football League and one Grey Cup championship, a local gridiron athlete is calling it a career.
Brad Erdos, a product of Coaldale and a graduate of Catholic Central High announced his retirement from the Calgary Stampeders on Monday.
Erdos was drafted by the Stampeders 27th overall in the 2012 CFL draft and signed with the team on Jan. 8, 2014.
Erdos made his CFL debut on Sept. 21, 2014 against the Montreal Alouettes, suited up in three more games in his rookie year and was on the Stamps practice roster as Calgary won the Grey Cup.
“It has been a great ride, but it has come to and end,” said Erdos in a statement at Stampeders.com. “After six seasons of football in Calgary, I am proud to retire a Stampeder. First off, I have to thank my wife for all of her support. I have been through numerous injuries, surgeries and rehabs during my career, and she has been right there helping me while raising our two boys.”
Erdos landed the starting right guard position in 2015. He started every game in 2017 and 2018, reaching the Grey Cup championship in both years and winning it in 2018.
Unfortunately, Erdos missed all of the 2019 season due to a knee injury and did not play in 2020 due to the 2020 CFL season being cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Erdos also attended Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C.
