The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s soccer team has signed a longtime Lethbridge Football Club member.
On Wednesday, the Kodiaks announced the commitment of Lethbridge product Ambreah Kelly in time for the 2021 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference season.
Kelly, a right-back, has been a member of the LFC since she was 10 years old.
Through that, she has built a solid relationship with Kodiaks head coach Sean Carey, paving the way for Kelly to join her hometown squad for her post-secondary career.
“I’ve actually been coached by Sean before and I really like his coaching style and how he gets the team together,” says Kelly in a release. “I’m just really excited to play for the Kodiaks and getting back into playing soccer.”
Carey enjoyed the chance to shop local once again.
“She’s been an LFC player all her life. She’s a right back that’s physical, strong,” said the Kodiaks bench boss. “Ambreah has the same element that we always look for in players. She’ll run through a wall for her teammates, and I feel that with a good training camp she could be pushing for playing time this fall. We’re excited to have her on.”
Like all athletes, the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a wrench into Kelly’s competition and training schedule.
But the newest Kodiak managed to push through those obstacles and during a brief period where outdoor training was allowed, she was able to meet and connect with her future teammates.
“Obviously with COVID we’ve had a break, but I’m just really excited to get back and doing what I love,” said Kelly. “Obviously training has been a little different, so I’ve just been focusing on more strength training and getting in some runs.”
The ACAC has been granted approval to draft schedules and commence preparations for the delivery of a 2021-22 post-secondary athletics season.
Further information will be announced as it evolves.
