Pronghorns duo at Rugby Canada West camp

By Lethbridge Herald on July 9, 2021.

A pair of University of Lethbridge Pronghorns rugby athletes have landed on Rugby Canada’s radar.

The Pronghorns seniors duo of Abby Duguid and Keegan Brantner have been invited to Rugby Canada’s western camp in Victoria.

Training sessions started Thursday and go until Sunday at Starlight Stadium along with all-day sessions today and Saturday at Shawnigan Lake School.

Both Pronghorns have been part of the national program at a variety of levels.

Brantner has suited up for the Canada U20 team in 2019, while Duguid has also played with the Canadian U20 team, but also made her first Senior National team appearance in 2018.

Duguid, who hails from Edmonton and plays lock and back row for the Pronghorns, has one year remaining in her USPORTS eligibility after receiving a medical redshirt in 2019.

She took this past year off from school and traveled to England, playing with the Loughborough Lightning.

Duguid was also named a Canada West All-Star in 2018.

A 2017 Canada West All-Star and team captain, Brantner will return to the Pronghorns this fall after being accepted in a Master’s program, having completed her Bachelor of Arts degree this past spring.

Over her career, the Taber product has been a key player and leader on and off the field for the Pronghorns, highlighted by receiving the University of Lethbridge Alumni Association Leadership Award this past year.

Pronghorns rugby will return to Canada West conference action Sept. 18 when they host the Alberta Pandas at the University of Lethbridge Stadium.
