Bulls bats bust out big time

With some mighty swings of the stick, the Lethbridge Bulls have snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Bulls downed the Edmonton Prospects 19-12 in Western Canadian Baseball League play Friday night in Edmonton as catcher Noah Or batted 4-for-6 with one home run and five RBI for Lethbridge.

In a slug-fest, Lethbridge broke open a 5-5 tie after the fourth inning with six runs in the fifth, three more in the sixth and seventh and two in the ninth for the high-scoring win that puts the Bulls at 8-8 on the season.

The Bulls outhit the Prospects – now 10-8 with the loss – 20-14 as Lethbridge grabs their first win on an eight-game road swing following a pair of losses to the Okotoks Dawgs Black and Red squads and the Sylvan Lake Gulls.

On Friday night, the Bulls and Prospects duelled through two scoreless innings before scoring three runs each in the third inning and two more in the fourth. The Bulls grabbed the lead for good, plating six runs in the fifth.

Bulls right fielder Carlin Dick was 3-for-6 with one run scored and four RBI, while Nick Gravel and Jack Ray also had three-hit nights. Gravel batted 3-for-6 with three runs scored and four RBI and Ray was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and one RBI. Gravel’s home run Friday was his first of the season.

Hitting leadoff, Lethbridge shortstop Mike Fitzsimmons was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Ty Penner made seven plate appearances, getting two hits, scoring one run and one RBI.

Bulls starter Flynn Ridley took the win for the Bulls, going six innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits, walking one and striking out eight. The Burnaby, B.C. product is now 1-1 on the season.

Or now has 14 RBI on the season, while Gravel has 13.

The Bulls and Prospects are back at it today in doubleheader action. The first game is 2:05 p.m. with the second game following at 6:05 p.m.

The teams wrap it up Sunday at 6:05 p.m.

After a stop in Okotoks Tuesday to take on the Dawgs Red, the Bulls return to Spitz Stadium Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. when the Dawgs Black come to town.
