Softball Valley is going to be a busy place this weekend.
There will be plenty of action on the baselines as the facility plays host to three events Friday through Sunday.
“We have three different events going on at the same time,” said Softball Valley facility manager Hank Stoffer.
University-calibre softball will take the field as the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns host a Western Collegiate Softball Association weekend.
“They have a tournament here,” said Stoffer. “So we have the University of Lethbridge, University of Calgary, the University of Regina, University of Saskatchewan, SAIT and UBCO.”
Also at Softball Valley this weekend is the local Plus-50 league hosting a senior’s tournament Saturday and Sunday.
“Teams are coming from all over southern Alberta in three categories, 55-plus, 60-plus and 65-plus,” said Stoffer of the 15-team field. “They’re running Saturday and Sunday.
The action starts Saturday at 9 a.m.
On Sunday the Kappa Beta Gamma sorority from the U of L will run a tournament to raise money for Special Olympics.
“We donate the use of the park for them and that will be Sunday only for that one,” said Stoffer.
As for hosting three events in one weekend, Stoffer said Softball Valley is up for it.
“We’re used to running 11 diamonds at a time. So this isn’t that big for us. But it’s kind of unique there is this variety of people using the park. It’s rare that we get fastball down here.”
In WCSA play, the action gets under Saturday at 10:30 a.m. as the Pronghorns take on SAIT and UBCO plays Saskatchewan.
Lethbridge plays again at 12:30 p.m. against UBCO and at 3:30 p.m. against Calgary.
Play resumes at 9 a.m. Sunday as the Horns take on Saskatchewan.
The final three games go at 11 a.m. as Lethbridge plays Regina.
Admission is free to all the events.
