Eagles perched in second place in AJFHL South Division

The Lethbridge Eagles remain firmly in second place in the Alberta Junior Female Hockey League South Division.

The Eagles were edged 2-1 by the Calgary Titans in league play Saturday afternoon in Calgary, but managed a 1-1 weekend thanks to a 5-4 win over the Calgary Jags Sunday, also in Calgary.

With the 1-1 weekend, the Eagles are 14-4-1-0 and in second place in the South Division, five points back of the front-running Cochrane Chaos and four points up on the Titans.

On Saturday, Tenelle Lind scored in the first period, but the Titans scored once in the second and third to post the win.

Eagles goaltender Abigail Mucha stopped 14 of 16 shots in the loss.

Kendi Lundell and Skylar Colonna each scored twice in Sunday’s win and Kyra Greig added the other Lethbridge marker as the Eagles opened up a 5-1 lead before the Jags scored three unanswered to close within one.

Greig added an assist for two points and Eryn Johanson chipped in with two assists for the Eagles.

Hayley Whelen earned the win, kicking out 27 of 31 shots.

The Eagles host the Chaos in a one-two battle of the South Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Nicholas Sheran Arena and head to Stavely Sunday to take on the Southern Sage at 6:15 p.m.

In South Central Alberta Hockey League play last weekend the Lethbridge U18 Hockey Hounds skated to a 2-2 tie with the Calgary CRAA Blue at Friday night at Henderson Arena.

The tie puts the Hockey Hounds at 5-10-3.

Drew Constant and Sheldon Sawyer scored for the Hockey Hounds.

Nixon Ordway was kept busy in goal, stopping 40 of 42 shots.

The Hockey Hounds finish the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule on a busy note this weekend with three games.

They host the Medicine Hat Hounds Friday at 7 p.m. at Henderson Arena and the Okotoks Oilers Saturday at 7:15 p.m., also at Henderson Arena.

Lethbridge hits the road to Calgary Sunday to take on the Calgary CRAA Gold at 2 p.m.
