The Coaldale Copperheads playoff run has come to an end.
The Copperheads were defeated 3-2 by the Medicine Hat Cubs in Game 4 of the teams’ second round Heritage Junior Hockey League best-of-seven series Wednesday night at the Coaldale Sportsplex.
With the win, the Cubs score a 4-0 sweep and face the South Division top-seeded Okotoks Bisons, who swept the Strathmore Wheatland Kings.
On Wednesday night in Coaldale, the teams were tied 2-2 after the first period before Cubs’ Callen Prosofsky scored the eventual game-winner eight minutes into the second period.
Coaldale held a 2-0 lead in the opening 6:09 on goals from Mason Sande and James Halverson before Medicine Hat responded with markers from Colby Friedrich and Jacob Milne to tie it at 2-2 after 20 minutes.
Copperheads goaltender Logan Leroux stopped 20 of 23 shots in the loss, while Dawsen Savage made 24 saves for the Cubs.
The Copperheads went 22-11-3 in the regular season to place third in the HJHL South Division, six points behind the second-place Cubs (25-8-3).
