The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns rugby 7’s team are back in the scrum this weekend.
The Horns head to the coast for the final stop on the Canada West Sevens series in Vancouver Friday and Saturday.
Heading into the weekend, the Pronghorns sit in fourth place in the overall standings through two tournaments.
Following a fifth place finish in the opening event, the Pronghorns rebounded to place third at the second event in Victoria with a thrilling overtime win over the Alberta Pandas.
Through the first two events the Pronghorns are 5-6 overall.
Lethbridge opens the UBC tournament Friday afternoon against the Calgary Dinos, which will serve as a rubber match with each team winning once thus far.
Calgary beat the Pronghorns in Edmonton 24-14 and the Pronghorns scored some payback in Victoria with a 15-14 victory.
Rebecca Powell leads the Pronghorns in scoring with 30 points, scoring three tries in each tournament, while both Ruby McRae and Sam Ganske have registered 20 points.
With only seven teams entered in the event this week, the Pronghorns will wrap up preliminary play at 2 p.m. versus the Vikes.
Placement games will start Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Victoria Vikes have run the table through the first two events, having not lost a game and lead the overall standings with 24 points.
The UBC Thunderbirds are second, having lost in both tournament finals to Victoria.
Alberta is in third with 14 points with the Pronghorns right behind them with 12 points.
Calgary is two points behind the Horns with 10 points.
