The Lethbridge College Kodiaks men’s and women’s basketball teams fell just short of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference final four.
The Kodiaks hosted a pair of playoff games Saturday night at the Val Matteotti Gymnasium.
However, neither of hosts were able to advance as the Kodiaks women were defeated 65-60 by the SAIT Trojans, while the Kodiaks men fell 86-76 to the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings.
In the men’s game, the Kodiaks trailed 38-31 at the half, but outscored the Kings 28-23 in the third quarter.
But the Kings pulled away in the fourth quarter to post the win.
Graduating Kodiak Orin Porter Jr. led Lethbridge with 24 points, six rebounds and five assists, while Jack-Henry Fox-Grey hit for 14 points and nine rebounds.
Paycen Blackmore also hit double digits with 12 points.
The Kodiaks shot 40 per cent from the field, 27.3 per cent from the three-point line and 46.7 per cent at the free throw line.
The Kodiaks posted a 13-3 regular season record to take second place in the South.
The ACAC men’s basketball final four goes Friday and Saturday at SAIT in Calgary.
Red Deer will face the Keyano Huskies and the Lakeland Rustlers will take on the host Trojans on Friday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
The bronze medal game goes Saturday at 5 p.m. with the gold medal game to follow at 7 p.m.
In the women’s game, the Kodiaks led 33-31 at the half, but the Trojans replied with a 21-point third quarter for a 52-46 lead.
Matlin Jacobs and Courtney Deemter each had 17 points and Natalie Heninger added 10 and five assists.
Kirsten Barwegen grabbed nine rebounds and four steals.
The Kodiaks shot 33.3 per cent from the field, 23.1 from beyond the arc and 70 per cent on free throws.
wwThe Kodiaks were 11-5 in the regular season to take second place in the South.
SAIT, Lakeland, the NAIT Ooks and St. Mary’s University Lightning advance to the final four Friday and Saturday in Lloydminster.
SAIT plays Lakeland at 6 p.m. and NAIT faces St. Mary’s at 8 p.m. Friday.
The bronze medal game is at 5 p.m. Saturday. The gold medal game follows at 8 p.m.
