The Lethbridge Hurricanes have parted ways with assistant coach Jeff Hansen.
The assistant coach who was hired by the Hurricanes in June of 2017 was let go prior to the team’s road trip last week.
On Friday, Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt confirmed Hansen was no longer with the team.
“Jeff is a good man and a hard worker, and this wasn’t an easy decision, but we felt it was time to make a change,” said Anholt, in a release.
“We weren’t happy with the development of our defence and the accountability of our blueline.”
Anholt said Hansen’s duties with the defence corps has been spread out between Hurricanes head coach Brent Kisio and the rest of the coaching staff.
“Brent was very active with the defence core in Calgary (with the Hitmen) and we have (video coach) Ryan Aasman who was a defenceman in our league and Matt (Anholt assistant general manager/coach), so we’re just spreading out the responsibilities a little bit.”
Prior to arriving in Lethbridge, Hansen spent the previous four seasons as a video coach with the Hitmen.
He also helped the Hitmen to the Eastern Conference Championship Series in 2015 and spent the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons working alongside Kisio.
