The Southern Alberta Interscholastic Administrative Council varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball championships are set.
The SAIAC playoffs began Tuesday night and will wrap up tonight as the number-one ranked Magrath Zeniths face the second-seeded Cardston Cougars in the 4A boys’ gold medal game tonight at 8 p.m. at Magrath High School.
The 4A girls’ final will also be a one-two match as the top-ranked Raymond Comets host the Magrath Pandas at 5 p.m. at Raymond High School.
On the boys’ side, the Zeniths received a bye on Tuesday due to their top ranking and faced Medicine Hat in the semifinals Thursday in Magrath, posting an 82-53 win to advance to the gold medal game.
The Cougars started the week with a 107-75 win over the Chinook Coyotes Tuesday in Cardston and then defeated the LCI Rams 94-87 in the semifinals Thursday at Cardston.
After getting a first-round bye, the Comet girls beat the Cardston Cougars 93-29 in the semifinals Thursday in Raymond.
The Pandas downed the Coyotes 107-13 Tuesday night at Magrath and topped the Catholic Central Cougars 90-38 in the semifinals Thursday, also in Magrath.
The 4A boys’ elimination games for the bronze medal game were taking place Friday night as Medicine Hat faced the Catholic Central Cougars at Magrath and the LCI Rams took on the Comets at LCI.
In the girls 4A elimination games, Cardston was taking on Medicine Hat in Magrath and the LCI Clippers were playing Catholic Central at LCI.
The times and places for the boys and girls bronze medal games are to be determined.
