Saturday night’s game between the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Red Deer Rebels needed an 11-round shootout to decide a winner.
It was the Hurricanes’ Briley Wood that ended the game in the 11th round to give Lethbridge a 3-2 win over their division rivals.
Yegor Klavdiev and Ty Nash also scored for the Canes in the shootout while Jhett Larson and Ben King scored for the hometown Rebels.
The Rebels’ Kalen Lind scored his 18th goal of the year at 10:14 of the first to open the scoring .
Klavdiev and Tyson Laventure scored in the third to the give the Hurricanes the lead, before Arshdeep Bains scored with just over three minutes to go in regulation to tie.
It was the Hurricanes’ second win a row against the Rebels after a 5-2 victory on Friday night at the Enmax Centre.
The Rebels peppered Canes goalie Bryan Thomson with 37 shots and Lethbridge produced 25 shots.
Lethbridge went 0-for-1 on the power play and gave up one goal on two chances to the Rebels.
The Hurricanes have a record of 26-28-3-1 and still sit seventh place in the conference.
The Hurricanes will begin a home-and-home with the conference and division-leading Edmonton Oil Kings on Friday night at 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre, before heading north for a Sunday afternoon game, 4 p.m, at Rogers Place.
