The Bridge Blades Speed Skating Club recently competed at western and national competitions.
Mikka Eaves recently competed in the 2021-2022 Short Track Canada Cup in Richmond, B.C. and placed 10th our 45 competitors. She won five of 11 races at the national level competition.
“The competition serves to identify athletes that will be nominated to the National Short Track Speed Skating Team’s Next Generation list of athletes,” as read in the release.
Eaves was named the Junior Females Athletes for the 2021 Lethbridge Sport Council Achievement Award recently.
Eaves will be continuing her training in Calgary as part of the Olympic Oval Development program beginning this spring.
“We wish her every success as she pursues her goal to be a member of the national short track speed skating team,” as read in the release.
Six local skaters qualified to represent Team Alberta at the Canadian Youth Short Track Championships – West competition held in Selkirk, Man.
Following some gusty performances and several personal best results, medals were awarded to the following skaters.
Bridge Blade skater Gavin Ogilivie won bronze in the T2T 12 Boys 1,500- metre final and in the T2T 12 Boys 400-metre final and silver as a member of the junior boys relay team.
Zak Adelman won silver in the T2T 14 Boys 200-metre final, bronze in the T2T 14 Boys 200 metre and bronze in the T2T 14 Boys 400- metre final.
Braeden Kremenik won bronze in the T2T 15 Boys 200-metre final.
