Lethbridge Hurricanes 2021 first round pick Tristen Doyle signed a WHL standard player agreement back on March 24 and could not be more excited to be with the team for the remainder of the season.
The Bonnyville product has suited up in two games since he signed.
“It was pretty awesome,” said Doyle on making his debut on March 27 in Edmonton.
“It was pretty cool to come in and play a game in my hometown. It was a lot of fun and I don’t know, all the boys are good. I like them — they’re good.”
Doyle received a text from Hurricanes general manager Peter Anholt to see if the defenceman wanted to come out for the remainder of the year and could not pass the opportunity up.
“Just getting better every day and getting my shot better, harder, stronger and getting to know everybody (and) be a part of the team.”
He hasn’t hesitated to reach out to Captain Joe Arntson for feedback and ask questions how about what he should be doing.
“Always keep your head up is probably the biggest thing and move pucks quick,” he said.
Doyle said the WHL is a lot faster and you have less time.
Doyle prepared this season with his midget club, the Northern Alberta Xtreme U18 Prep team, knowing that he might come up and play a couple of games.
“I just played my game and tried to get better,” said the 2006-born defenceman.
He describes himself as offensive defenceman that likes to jump in the rush to score goals.
When asked about draft day, “I wasn’t expected to go to Lethbridge because they hadn’t really talked to me. But once my name popped up, I was really excited to be a Lethbridge Hurricane.”
He also played against Medicine Hat on April 2, before heading back to the Xtreme for a tournament and there after rejoining the Hurricanes for the playoffs.
