Chaos ready for inaugural lacrosse season

Southern Alberta Chaos are the newest addition to the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Junior B Tier II Cindy Garant division this season.

The team was made possible for players ages 17-20, thanks to the Lethbridge Lacrosse Association, Taber lacrosse,  Brooks lacrosse and Medicine Hat.

“We kind of had the thought over the last little while to try and get something a little bit more centralized in southern Alberta lacrosse,” said Jared Capner, Chaos coach.

“And then just with Medicine Hat having the only Tier II team and Lethbridge having the only Tier I team, we kind of thought maybe it was a good fit to see about trying to put a team in Taber. It didn’t go really far right at the beginning and then some unfortunate situations happened in Medicine Hat where they were not able to field a team. So once that happened,  we were kind of approached about seeing if we can get something started here in Taber.”

It was in a span of two weeks where phone calls were made to talk to a bunch of players and as a result the new team was able to meet the requirements and move forward with a season.

“So everybody that we talked to was fairly receptive,” he said.

“They were pretty excited. Those are all the kids that if they knew that they probably weren’t going to play Tier I in Lethbridge,  (and) so this kind of gave them another avenue to continue playing lacrosse and for the most part they were all really receptive and super excited.”

“You know the more players we can get, the better chances we have for a successful season,” he said.

”At the end of the day we’ve done our best and we’ve got the commitment level we needed from the kids.”

The club has reached out to Medicine Hat to see if players want to join their team.

The Chaos will open their season on the road on April 30 in Calgary against the Sabrecats.

The team will pay their home games at the Taber Ice Arena this season.

The home opener will be on May 7 against the Strathmore Venom at 1:30 p.m.
