After a 45-minute ceremony to honour the efforts of Mitch Ball in the local umpiring community, the Lethbridge Bulls and Sylvan Lake Gulls got underway in the season opener at Spitz Stadium.

The Gulls were up 8-6 in the ninth inning as of  press time.

It was the visiting Gulls that got on the board first in the top half of the first inning as Chase Rodriguez hit a home run over the right field fence with two outs.

The Gulls looked to make some more noise in the third inning as Rodriguez hit a single  with two outs, Tyler Mcwillie hit another single and Kyle  Froelich walked  to load the bases. But Ben Prediger hit a fly out to end the inning.

The Bulls Javier De Alejandro gave up four hits over three innings of work  before giving way to Weston Siefkon.

Cooper Jones got a base hit in the fourth inning to score Hull Noah to make the score 2-0  Gulls.

The Bulls had runners on the corners in the fifth and failed to cash in.

Lethbridge got their first hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth as Nolan King hit a single.

Shaye McTavish came in the seventh inning for the Bulls and would be the third pitcher used for the home team on the evening.

Prediger made the game 3-0 on a broken bat single that drove in Mcwillie in the top of the seventh.

After two pitching substitution for the Bulls in the seventh , the onslaught continued for the Gulls as a Jaden Lamothe single scored both Froelich and Prediger to make the game 5-0 Sylvan Lake.

Both Hull and Lamothe would score later in the inning to make it 7-0 Gulls.

Lethbridge scored six runs in the bottom of the eighth.
