The Lethbridge Bulls got their first win of the season after blanking the Sylvan Lake Gulls 4-0 at Spitz Stadium on Saturday night.

All the scoring came in the fifth inning, as the home team loaded the bases and Torrin Vaselenak scored off a Tyler Vivier single with no one out.

Nick Gravel was up next and drove in Hunter Porter with a single,  before Roger Riley reached on a fielder’s choice and  scored Noah Rodriguez.

The Bulls would pad their lead as Vivier scored on a wild pitch to make the game 4-0.

“Yeah, it’s always nice to get that first win,” said Chance Wheatley, Bulls head coach.

“Obviously, I really loved Kade (Kahlert’s) start tonight. You know came in, pounded the zone, and threw exceptional, really. He did a great job for us tonight — and you know you pound the zone and it’s easy to play behind.”

Kade Kahlert had a good night on the hill as he pitched  6 2/3 innings, threw 57 strikes and 30 balls and allowed two hits.

“Yeah, I mean going in I didn’t really know how I was feeling,” said Kahlert.

“And then once I got out there, I got into it  and everything started going good and before your know it ,you’re in the sixth inning and yeah could not ask for much more than that.”

Kahlert said, “And I was just out there and  trying to compete with my  teammates and give us that first win.”

Wheatley thought with Kahlert’s performance that it resets everyone in the bullpen after being busy the two games prior.

The Bulls would lose to  the Brooks Bombers 8-7 on Sunday afternoon to fall to 1-3 after the WBCL’s opening weekend.

Lethbridge will host the Vauxhall Academy Jets Wednesday night at Spitz Stadium (7:05 p.m.) in the TCMM Memorial Game.

The Bulls will then host the Fort Mc Murray Giants on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
