Lethbridge Volleyball Club is hosting its inaugural summer volleyball camps in August at the  University of Lethbridge.

“And part of it, is with COVID for the last number of years, you know a lot of kids have missed out on so much and so much of their development,” said Ard Biesheuvel, LVC director of coaching.

“Their window of time to play volleyball is limited and when they’re in school and if they’ve missed two years worth of development or opportunities, you know we’re just trying to give them some opportunity to catch up on that.”

Biesheuvel responded to the importance of the camps by saying they’re trying to grow their club.

“Part of my role is to help grow LVC and so I’m just trying to look for opportunities and as a club we’re trying to look for opportunities to just get playing,” he said.

“And summer camps seem to be a really good opportunity for kids to take a week out of their summer and get a chance to play and get coached by some of our coaches. We try to set up the camps that all of our coaches at the camps are going to be  club coaches or experienced coaches and we try to make a very low player-to-athlete ratio so it’s not a money grab or one coach with a million kids.”

With the 6-to-1 player to coach ratio, players will get more feedback in the camp.

LVC has tried to grow the sport recently with skills camps ran by alumni at Christmas time, open gyms and the Cubs to Kodiaks program with elementary kids.

A club member will be hosting beach volleyball this summer.

Summer camps will have Cubs to Kodiaks U9 and U12 from Aug. 15-19, U16-18 boys camp from Aug. 2-5, U13-15 girls from Aug.15-19, the U13 -15 boys will run Aug. 8-12 and a U16-U18 girls camp from Aug. 2-5.

Registration is open and  can be done at http://www.lethbridgevolleyballclub.com/camps-and-events.
