After starting the season 3-0, the Lethbridge FC women’s team have lost two straight games, including a recent 1-0 mill defeat to the Edmonton Northwest United on Saturday at home.
“I thought we played well,” said John D’Agnone, Lethbridge FC head coach.
“This is a very good team that we’re playing today, Edmonton Northwest United, who are always a top of the league, champions from last year. So we knew we were in for a tough game and I think our girls played well.”
D’Agnone thought the girls defended well in the past couple games.
“I think it’s always great playing a team like that,” he said.
“They’re a good team; they play the game the right way. They’re very structured and keep the ball and I think it forces us to play better and I think it did today. I think like defensively, a much more sound game. This is a type of team that can come in and score a bunch of goals if you aren’t ready for them. So I think we defended well to keep this game close. We just didn’t get that chance or two to tie up the game at the end.”
D’Agnone said that defensive structure that we played with today is really important to take the rest of the way.
“We had a new player out for the very first time. We had some other girls getting more playing time than they have in the past. So it’s just getting this group together,” he said.
D’Agnone said on the strong start to the season, “We did the job and won those three winnable games at the start and it’s a good feeling to get those three wins early and at this point we know we can steal points at home against any team, so that’s going to be really important for us.”
