The Lethbridge Bulls would get redemption in the night game of the Canada Day doubleheader as they walked off the Brooks Bombers in the bottom of the ninth to win 9-8 at Spitz Stadium.
Brad Goodwin hit a two out walk-off single to bring home Brandon Nicoll for the winning run.
For the second straight game it was the Bombers who scored first as Drew Mackie scored on an error by Bulls first basemen Carter Claerhout before Denver Blinn stepped up to hit a triple to score Matt Wolff and get out to a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first, the Bulls would tie the game up as Claerhout hit a single to score Nick Gravel and Roger Riley.
Blinn was up at the dish again in the third inning and hit a single to score Ryan Nagelbach to pull the visitors ahead 3-2.
With two men on in the fourth inning, the Bombers were able to capitalize as Jager Pico advanced to first on an error by the Bulls second baseman and resulted in both Zach Rabe and Kiel Brenczewski scoring earned runs after advancing to second and third respectively earlier on a passed ball.
Gravel cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth as he hit a sacrifice fly to score Carlin Dick.
The Bulls would come within in one run in the in the fifth inning as a Noah Rodriguez single scored Claerhout to make the game 5-4 Brooks.
Blinn continued his productive night in the seventh as his single scored Jonah Weisner to give Brooks a two-run lead.
It was with two men on in the same inning that Brenczewski hit a single to cash in Blinn to make the game 7-4 Brooks.
In the bottom half of the seventh, Gravel reached first base on a fielder’s choice and scored Dick and made it a two-run game.
Gravel and Rodriguez would eventually score on a Nicoll single to tie the game at seven.
Nagelbach came up to the dish in the top of the eighth and was served a wild pitch and resulted in Pico scoring to go ahead by one run.
Krece Papierski hit a single in the bottom of the eighth to score Goodwin and tie the game at eight and set up Goodwin’s heroics in the ninth with two out.
The Bulls lost 8-4 in extra innings earlier in the day.
The win moved the Bulls to 13-12 on the season before playing in Okotoks on Saturday night.
