The Lethbridge Pronghorn men’s soccer team heads out on the road to open the new Canada West season, traveling to Saskatoon to face the Saskatchewan Huskies to start a new era of the program this weekend ( 7: 30 p.m.
A year ago the Huskies swept the Pronghorns in a two-game set in Saskatoon. The Pronghorns will host the second game of the season series during the final weekend of the conference schedule, October 22nd.
Under the guidance of first-year head coach Davin Haigh, the Pronghorns will look to get the season off on the right foot on the road. Through training camp and three non-conference games, the team has worked to implement the structure and style that Haigh would like the Pronghorns to play this season.
A year ago the Pronghorns missing the post-season with a 0-8-2 record but have a strong core of returning players. Headlined by Karim Bey and Will Hughes, who tied for the team lead in goals last season, 22 players return this season.
Newcomers Tegan Romaine (Goalkeeper, Abbotsford, BC), Magnus Engleson (Fullback, Kamloops, BC) and Cole Jackson (Striker, Kamloops, BC) will look to have an impact in their first seasons with the Pronghorns.
The women will kick off their season at home this weekend against a rival in the Mount Royal Cougars.
Fresh off training camp and four non-conference games, the Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s soccer team will launch into the 2022 Canada West season this Saturday, hosting the Mount Royal Cougars at 2 p.m. at Community Stadium
With 19 players entering the season in their first three years of eligibility, the Pronghorns will continue to build towards moving up the standings. Seven true freshman and two transfers join the team this season and are headlined by transfer Lisa Popp (Wurzburg, Germany) and first-years Alexis Bradford (Abbotsford, BC) and Kiandra Boulter (Calgary, AB).
