Catholic Central Cougars are 1-1 to start off the football season and their new coach just wants to see continued improvement and create a winning culture.

The process for me is to try and develop a winning culture,” said head coach Jordan Dyck.

“And not that we haven’t had that in the past but things got to change when you have a new coach and you have a new coaching staff. It’s really not all about me, it’s about the coaches that have come along, the players and staff that I have along with me. We’re just going to take it one game at a time and see what we can do.”

The expectation is to get better every day.

“That’s our No. 1 goal is to get better each and every day,” he said.

“Because there’s some things in football you can’t control. But the one thing you can control is getting better each and every day.”

Dyck feels the team is lucky in the sense that there are the seniors that they want to assist in helping to grow, but also doing the same for the new players.

Dyck’s biggest change would be to see the program become more a part of the community.

“I just think it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out that there is a need in our community and football isn’t just about football either,” said Dyck.

“It’s really about the man beside you. So we want to create a brotherhood, we want to create a family. But we want to serve our community as well.”

Dyck has been a coach on and off for five years with the program and he saw there was a need and he wanted to fill it.

“There is a great legacy here at Catholic Central and our goal is to keep that going,” said Dyck.

The Cougars will look to get their second win of the season when they play their cross-town rival Winston Churchill on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
