The Lethbridge College Kodiaks cross country team completed the third Grand Prix of the season at Concordia University in Edmonton on Saturday.
It was for the first time this year that the women’s side had a fourth runner and managed to finish fourth overall in the team rankings.
“Maria Boix-Frias had an especially stellar run, finishing the six-kilometre course in just 27 minutes,” said coach Simon Scharez.
As for the men, they finished third overall behind Red Deer Polytechnic and SAIT.
“Team leader Cooper Williams had another impressive run, finishing the eight-kilometre course in over 28 minutes,” said Scharez.
Scharez is happy with the men’s side effort this far.
“I’m very happy with the men’s team and how they have come together,” he said.
“Everyone is pulling in the same direction and I think we stand a very good chance at winning a medal at the ACAC championship at the end of October.”
Scharez feels the women’s side has some work to do.
“Injuries and new faces on the team means we haven’t quite had enough to put ourselves on the rankings,” he said.
“That’s all a part of the process, though. We have another month left to work hard and take a shot at a podium finish at the ACAC championship.
He is very happy with Boix- Frias on an individual basis.
