The Lethbridge Hurricanes got on the board first, but that would be the last time they held the lead in Wednesday night’s 5-3 loss at home to the Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Canes Jett Jones opened the scoring at 7:27 in the first period before the Warriors replied with four straight goals from Atley Calvert, Maximus Wanner, Eric Alarie and another from Calvert, with the game winning goal coming on a powerplay.
The Hurricanes came within one after a second period goal from Anton Astashevich and another in the third from Chase Pauls, before Moose Jaw’s Eric Alarie netted his second of the night for the Warriors insurance goal.
Hurricanes netminder Harrison Meneghin faced 29 shots, while the homeside only tested Warriors goalie Connor Ungar 22 times.
The game was pushed back half an hour to allow fans to take in the end of the World Juniors semifinal matchup between Canada and the U.S.
The loss puts the Hurricanes record at 21-15-0-1.
The Warriors Calvert was named first star, along with teammate Alarie as second; the Canes Cole Shepard was named third star.
The Hurricanes are back in action Saturday when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings 7 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.
