Hurricanes lose in overtime to Everett Silvertips

By Lethbridge Herald on January 18, 2023.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes gained a point but lost the battle on the road Wednesday night, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Everett Silvertips.

The Silvertips Ty Gibson opened the scoring in the first period to lead a back and forth effort between the two teams.

The Canes Jett Jones would reply to get Lethbridge on the board in the second.

Everetts’ Ben Hemmerling took the lead again at the start of the third period before the Canes Joe Arntsen evened things back up.

A shorthanded goal by the Silvertips Raphael Pelletier nearly counted as the game winner, but with their goalie out for the extra man Logan Wormald sent the Hurricanes into overtime with 42 seconds left in regulation.

The Silvertips came out on top in the end as Ben Hemmerling scored his second of the night as the overtime hero for the home team.

Hurricanes goaltender Harrison Meneghin faced 32 shots, with Lethbridge taking 41 shots on Everett’s goal.

The Hurricanes record now stands at 24-15-2-2.

The Canes finish up their westcoast roadtrip this weekend with games against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday and the Portland Winterhawks on Saturday.
