The Sylvan Lake Gulls walked off the Lethbridge Bulls in the bottom of the ninth inning to win 3-2 on Wednesday night in Sylvan Lake.
It was with the bases loaded that the Gulls’ Nick Groves was hit by a Brad Goodwin pitch with the bases loaded to walk in Cleary Simpson for the winning run.
The scoring began in the fourth inning when Torrin Vaselenak hit his seventh home run of the season.
Sylvan Lake tied the game in the sixth inning as Shea Bowen advanced to first on a fielder’s choice, allowing Chase Rodriguez to score.
Fast forward to the eighth inning where the Bulls’ Jackson Clemett was at the dish and an error by the pitcher allowed for Kalem Haney to score to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
However, that lead didn’t last long as the hometown Gulls tied the game 2-2 in the bottom half of the eighth inning ,with a Bowen single cashing in Hank Dodson for the tying run.
Vaselenak led the way for the Bulls as he went 1-for-4 on the night.
Aidan Newton had a solid outing as he pitched 7 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on six hits, while striking out four batters.
Newton’s counterpart, Kyle Froelich, pitched six innings and giving up a run on three hits.
The club begins a four game series in Fort McMurray tonight against the Giants at 7:05 p.m.
The Bulls started the road trip with a 9-6 win against the Brooks Bombers on Tuesday, which was a night after an 11-5 win over the Brooks Bombers at Spitz Stadium.
