The Lethbridge College Kodiaks women’s basketball team picked up a local-area player with a winning pedigree to start this season.
Gabby Graves is a two-time provincial champion with the Raymond Comets program.
Graves will be seen in the classrooms of nursing program with the goal in mind of a bachelor’s degree.
“Being accepted into their nursing program early also provided me with the assurance that I was pursuing a program I was interested in,” says Graves. “I have heard many great things about the College’s Nursing program and have been considering playing for them (unofficially) for a few years now.”
Graves was left with a strong impression after the second day of identification camp and it gave her a feeling of more time to connect with Kodiaks players and coaches.
Additionally, it was the atmosphere around the gym that led to her decision of committing to the Kodiaks.
Graves has diverse sporting background, as when she is not on court, she is on the field playing rugby.
Head coach Ken McMurray sees Graves fitting right in with the team,
“One of the things I have noticed most about Gabby is her great attitude,” says McMurray. “She’s hardworking and a great teammate, and she will fit in perfectly with the Kodiaks family.”
“I hope to contribute to our team’s success this season and help us reach our full potential,” says Graves. “I wouldn’t be here without the support of my parents, teachers, and coaches, who have all played a role in shaping me into the player I am today.”
The women’s basketball team home will face the Ambrose University Lions in their home opener at 6 p.m. on October 20th in the Val Matteotti Gymnasium
