Golden Hawks, Hurricanes split weekend games

The Alberta Elite Hockey League season opened over the weekend and two Lethbridge team were in action.

The U18AAA Hurricanes opened with a 3-2 win over the Calgary North Stars on Friday in their home opener.

Brayden Holberton, Rylan Ng and Alex Westlund scored for the Canes.

The Hurricanes lost 3-2 to the Edmonton Oilers Jr. Orange on Sunday afternoon.

Edmonton opened up a 2-0 lead on the Canes in the first period before Lethbridge tied the game up in the third period with goals by Carter Dersch and Briggs Olson.

However, it was Edmonton’s Jake Sokoloski that scored with no time on the clock to preserve the win for the visitors.

As for the U15AAA Golden Hawks, they started on the road where they opened with a 4-3 win over the Southeast Tigers on Friday night in Medicine Hat.

Devin Groenenboom, Cohen Larson, Damen Vanderberg, Cohen Larson and Owen Demone scored for the Hawks in the win.

The Hawks travelled to Airdrie on Sunday and lost to the Xtreme 3-2.

Demone and Nolan Pilsner scored in the loss.
