Reese Hamilton scored with 1:07 to go in overtime to give the Calgary Hitmen a 4-3 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night at the Enmax Centre.
“I just think we kind of gave them a little bit of life there,” said Canes defencemen Noah Chadwick.
“We know what we’re capable of. We showed that on Wednesday and just kind of let these ones slip a little bit.”
Chadwick said it’s a good teaching moment.
“It just shows that you have to play a complete 60 minutes and the details really matter. It’s just the little things, the basics. We have to master that and just play that complete game .”
Head coach Bill Peters says there’s lessons to be learned all the time.
“But (the)intensity wasn’t anywhere close to where it needs to be to get two points in the Western Hockey League,” said Peters.
Carter MacAdams got the Hitmen on the board first with his second of the season at 11:04 of the first period from Chase Valliant.
The Hitmen took a 1-0 lead into the second period before Kooper Gizowski potted his fourth of the season at 9:48 of the second from Will Sharpe.
Calgary would take their second lead of the night when Oliver Tulk wristed it past Canes goalie Harrison Meneghin at 10:30 of the second period.
Ben Kindel and Sean Tschigerl picked up the assists on the goal.
Brayden Edwards would get one back for the Hurricanes to tie the game at 2 with his seventh of the season 14:29 into the second period.
Noah Chadwick and Leo Braillard each had an assist.
It was 1:26 later that Elias Knoester gave Lethbridge a 3-2 lead with his second goal of the year.
Tyson Zimmer assisted on the goal.
Tulk scored his second of the game just 4:29 into the third period to tie the game 3-3.
The attendance was 3,642.
The Hurricanes will host the Everett Silvertips on Wednesday night at the Enmax Centre.
