Tyson Zimmer scored 1:30 into overtime to give the Lethbridge Hurricanes a 4-3 road win over their arch-rival Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night.
Logan McCutcheon and Blake Swetlikoff assisted on the game-winning goal.
The Tigers’ Tyler MacKenzie took a pass back door and deposited his ninth goal into an empty net at 4:13 of the first to open up the scoring on the evening.
Andrew Basha and Cayden Lindstrom notched the assists on the marker.
The Canes’ Leo Braillard found the back of the net on the powerplay at 11:24 of the second period to tie the game at one.
McCutcheon got the assist on the goal.
Medicine Hat pulled ahead 2-1 just 2:15 later on Reid Andresen’s fourth goal of the season from Oasiz Wiesblatt and Hayden Harsanyi.
Brayden Edwards notched his eighth goal of the year on the powerplay just 2:50 into the third period from Braillard and McCutcheon to the tie the game at two.
Noah Chadwick gave the Canes a 3-2 lead at the 6:17 mark of the final frame from Chase Pauls.
The Hurricanes could not hold on to that lead as with 22 seconds left, it was Wiesblatt that tied the game and sent the game to overtime.
Lethbridge outshot the Tabbies 36-25.
The Canes went 2-for-5 and the Tigers went 1-for-4 on the powerplay.
Lethbridge (9-6-2) hosts the Portland Winterhawks tonight at 6 p.m. at the Enmax Centre.
