Dru Mushumanski and Taber product Carson Haynes has two goals each to lead the way for the Regina Pats in a 5-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night at the Enmax Centre.
Canes assistant coach Ryan Aasman thought the effort and compete was better from the team after the loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday night.
“Just inconsistent,” said Aasman.
“I mean I think we got in our own way a little bit. We got to find a way to score on one those powerplays when you have three to zero. And then when things went a little bit sideways, we kind of grasp the stick a little tight.”
Aasman thought the Canes couldn’t find ways to get timely goals when they had their looks. ]
“Even the (Noah) Chadwick cross bar in the second, it’d be nice to go into the break with that as a goal,” said Aasman.
The scoring did not take long to get going in this contest as the Pats’ Tanner Howe swept the puck through the five hole of Koen Cleaver just two minutes into the game.
Braxton Whitehead assisted on Howe’s 18th of the season.
Brayden Edwards tied the game for the Canes with his 14th goal of the season at the 8:47 mark of the first.
Logan Wormald and Noah Chadwick got the assists on the goal.
The Pats found some offence in the middle frame to break the tie.
The first Pats goal of the second period came from Dru Mushumanski at 9:02 of the middle frame.
Same Oremba and Kolten Bridgeman assisted on Mushumanski’s first of the year.
It was just 32 seconds later that Carson Haynes scored his first of the year from Whitehead and Mushumanski to make the score 3-1 Regina heading into the third period.
Mushumanski tapped in his second of the game at 6:25 of the third period to make it 4-1 Pats.
Whitehead assisted on the goal.
Noah Chadwick cut the Pats lead in half with his eighth of the season at the 12:51 mark of third from Edwards.
Haynes scored his second of the night with 47 seconds to go to seal the 5-2 win for Regina.
Kelton Pyne assisted on Haynes’ goal.
Final shots were 36-27 for the Canes.
