The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s basketball team start second semester tomorrow feeling confident after six-game win streak to finish first semester.

Horns head coach Dave Waknuk says the spirits are good.

“ I think we’re excited about what we accomplished but we know we still have so much more ahead of us,” said Waknuk.

“So trying to just reset ourselves and take it one weekend at a time.”

The hope is to keep the momentum up through their on-court play which saw running in  transition, the improvement of team defence and their offensive efficiency.

“(So) really trying to focus on those winning aspects that helped give us those wins in the first semester,” said Waknuk.

The Horns will have their work cut for them to keep the momentum going as three out of the remaining five weekends in the schedule are on the road.

“Yeah it’s always tough second semester because it  comes so much quicker,” said Waknuk.

“There’s no preseason, or build up and ramp up to it . You’re dropped right back into the sprint and we have three road trips of the five weekends. So back on the road a little bit which is always a little more challenging than getting to be at home … So we know that. And then we also know second semester, everybody is playing their best basketball and really ramping up. So we’re anticipating that it’ll be a tough road but we’re ready for it too. We think we’ve improved a lot and we think that we’re focused in the right direction for that second semester.”

Waknuk wants to see more improvement in second semester.

“The biggest thing I was happy (with) was how we improved as we went out every week,” he said.

“We got better from  preseason all the way to that last game before the break against Mount Royal. So I … want to do the same thing because if we can improve and be our best at the very end heading into the playoffs, that’s exactly the goal.”

The Horns (7-3) begin second  semester at UNBC (2-6) tomorrow and Saturday.
