Oasiz Wiesblatt scored 4:11 into overtime to lift the Medicine Hat Tigers to a 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes in a thrilling game at the Enmax Centre on Friday night.
“Our ability with the puck was extremely poor,” said Matt Anholt, Hurricanes, assistant coach to Dustin Forbes of 106.7 Rock.
“Lots of unnecessary sauce passes that ended up in turnovers, lots of cross ice passes that ended up in turnovers, lots of passes that were in our partners boots and our wingers boots, and lots of bad plays and that’s why we were in our D zone all the time.”
The Tigers got the scoring going in the game as Bogdans Hodass whacked home his seventh goal of the season in front of Harrison Meneghin 13:02 into the first period from Matt Paranych and Gavin McKenna.
Logan Wormald tied the game 21 seconds into the second period when he slid in his 19th goal of the season from Noah Chadwick and Logan McCutcheon.
The Tigers regained the lead when McKenna took advantage of a Harrison Meneghin miscue and deposited his 32nd goal 6:42 into the middle frame.
Brayden Edwards tied the game at two when he scored his 31st of the year from Chadwick and McCutcheon with over two minutes to go in regulation.
Final shots were 56-35 for the Tigers.
Both teams went 0-for-2 on the powerplay.
Each team has four wins in eight games against each other and will wrap up the regular season against one another tonight in Medicine Hat.
The Hurricanes were 18-10-6-0 on home ice in the regular season.
With the single point in the loss, the Hurricanes finish seventh in the Eastern Conference and will open the playoffs against the Swift Current Broncos next Friday night on the road.
