The Catholic Central Cougars had a strong showing on home turf with a 39-22 victory over the Chinook Coyotes during high varsity girls rugby action at CCH west on Tuesday.
“We were a good match against each other,” said Cougars head coach Dez Prete.
“This was definitely a hard game to win but we did well.”
Prete thought the team was strong in the rucks, which allows for competing of the ball on the ground.
“So being able to drive over that rucks helped us out in the end,” said Prete.
Captain Sydney Mcdonald arguably was a big part of the Cougars’s success.
“She’s been a really awesome captain, [and] really taking control of the field which is what we need,” said Prete.
“We came here early, we did a good warm up, we were ready to play,” said McDonald.
“I think a lot of us were dialled in. There was a little bit of nerves but I think that’s ultimately what got us going
