The Lethbridge Bulls passed an early season test with a convincing 12-4 win over the first place Okotoks Dawgs on Friday night at Spitz Stadium.
“(On) the base pads, I think we just stayed aggressive, really I think that was the main part,” said Bulls infielder Scott Hansen.
Hansen thought everyone was fired up to play Okotoks.
“Especially a lot of us, we know a lot of those guys,” said Hansen.
“So I think tonight was just getting out there, getting on them early and just kind of putting (them) away early too,” said Hansen.
The Bulls would get an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of first on fielder’s choice from Hansen that scored Kalem Haney.
Lethbridge did some damage in the bottom of the third with three runs to make the score 4-0.
Hansen hit a one out single to score Haney, while separate wild pitches later would bring in Hansen and Tyler Monroe.
The Bulls tacked on another run in the fourth courtesy of a home run by Adonis Bernal to make it 5-0.
The Dawgs would get two runs in the sixth on wild pitch and fielder’s choice respectively.
Roberto Chaparro singled to score Bernal, while Hansen hit an inside-the-park home run to score three more runs to make the score 9-2 Lethbridge in the seventh.
Okotoks scored their third run of the game on a Jason Wrubleski home run in the eighth inning.
A Chaparro triple scored two more Bulls runs in the eighth inning to give them an 11-3 lead.
Chaparro scored on a fielder’s choice a short time later to make it 12-3 Bulls.
Connor Crowson hit a home run in the top of the ninth to make the score 12-4.
The Dawgs had four runs on 10 hits and the Bulls scored 12 runs on 11 hits.
The loss was the Dawgs first of the season.
The Bulls host the Brooks Bombers tonight before playing in Okotoks on Sunday.
