Miners sweep the Royals

The Lethbridge Miner American Legion A baseball team swept the Fort Macleod Royals in a Sunday doubleheader with a 10-6 and 16-4 win.
The Miners were led by Brett Smith who had four hits in five at bats and seven runs on five hits in the seventh inning to propel them to the 16-4 win.
Carter Mann took the win for the Miners on the hill with after giving up three runs on three hit while striking out nine and walking three batters.
It was a different story in the second game as the Miners were forced to come back after being down as many as five runs.
The Miners would tie the game in the fifth inning and eventually scored five runs in the eighth to come away with the 10-6 victory.
Mann went 3-for-4 for Lethbridge at the dish including a key triple in the eighth that scored three runs.
Carter Bevans got the win for the Miners after pitching six innings.
The Miners improved to 7-3 in league play.
Lethbridge is in Lewiston for a tournament this weekend.
The Lethbridge Elks were roughed up by the Billings Scarlets during their opening weekend of American Legion AA conference play at home.
The Scarlets swept Sunday’s doubleheader with 5-2 and 13 -8 wins respectively.
Cooper Oriold-Climenhenga took the loss on the mound for the Elks in the 5-2 loss, while Willis Takahashi had two hits.
Ben Puszkar took the loss in relief of Kade Pallett in the second game.
Takahashi, Karsen Haney and River Hope each had three hits apiece and Tristan Oriold-Marek had two hits.
The twin bill losses were after an 8-0 loss on Saturday.
The Elks host the Kalispell Lakers tonight at 5 p.m. at Spitz Stadium.
As for the Lethbridge Lakers’ B’ Legion team, they went undefeated in Cranbrook over the weekend after two wins over Vauxhall and Cranbrook.
