Western Slam tournament teams determined

Southern Alberta college basketball fans now have a clearer picture as to who the NCAA Division One  teams will be during the inaugural Western Slam in November at the Enmax Centre.

An announcement was made from On-Ice Entertainment in partnership with the Enmax Centre and the City of Lethbridge  on Monday that the four teams that will be participating in the inaugural Western Slam, which an in-season multi-team NCAA tournament, will include the Kennesaw State Owls (Conference USA) the Towson University Tigers (Costal Conference) , U C Irvine Anteaters  (Big West Conference) and the Kent State Golden Flashes (Mid America Conference).

“The Big South Conference is excited to sponsor the 2024 Western Slam MTE, said James Holland, senior associate commissioner, Big South Conference.

“With teams from coast to coast in the United States, this promises to be an exciting three days of NCAA Division One basketball. The experience these student-athletes will receive from their time in Lethbridge will be a lifetime memory. The opportunity to travel outside of the United States and compete against the caliber of competition represented in this field will prepare them for success in their respective conferences and also enhance their opportunities for post-season tournament play.” 

A thrilling feeling came from the city to host the tournament.

“The City of Lethbridge is thrilled to be hosting the 2024 Western Slam in its inaugural year. Lethbridge and surrounding area are basketball enthusiast’s and to have the opportunity to work with the Big South and On Ice Entertainment in bringing Men’s NCAA Division 1 basketball to our community is an honor,” said Jennifer Norsworthy, acting general manager of the Enmax Centre.

 “This event will showcase top talent and a high caliber of men’s basketball, and with the popularity of the college game we expect a great turnout of fans who are excited to welcome these players and coaches.” 

The teams will compete in three games each over three days for six games total.

The Western Slam is from Nov. 28-30 at the Enmax Centre.
