The name Spitz Stadium will be sticking around for a few more years to come at the Henderson ballpark thanks to a new sponsorship agreement that was announced on Tuesday.

The new five-year, $250,000 sponsorship deal will see the ball park keep its naming rights through 2029.

Funding will come through from Spitz International founder and current now V&E Ventures Inc. president, Thomas Droog.

“When we had the stadium at first, we called it Spitz Stadium and (then) it came to an end and I said we got to keep going with it ,and I got a few years in me yet  (and)I said let’s go do it,” said Droog.

“Spitz Stadium is the name and I’m always kind of smiling when I drive through it and you see the name Spitz Stadium.”

Droog has had a sense of gratefulness to the Bulls and the city over the years.

“I like what they did in the beginning,” said Droog.

“They stuck their neck out to do this. This is the way I say thank you to the people of Lethbridge and the surrounding area and for supporting us in the beginning with Spitz.”

“It goes to show his passion for the local baseball community,” says Kevin Kvame, president and general manager of the Bulls and the overarching Under The Lights baseball groups. “On behalf of all the players who play here and the citizens who come to enjoy this tremendous facility, thank you Tom.”

PepsiCo, through an agreement, will continue through with the naming rights and the usage of the Spitz logo.

Additionally, a one-time  amount of $10,000 will go towards additional signage on the outside of the facility.

“I would like to acknowledge PepsiCo for their support in allowing the continued use of the Spitz name and logo,” says Droog.

It was also announced that Droog will commit a 10-year, $100,000 sponsorship to the Lethbridge Longhorns baseball academy. The Longhorns are affiliated with the Prairie Baseball Academy and the Lethbridge Bulls.

Spitz Stadium has been the name of the ball park since July 2008.

The new sponsorship deal does include renewing options with the possibility to have the rights extended for another two years.

“We would like to thank Mr. Droog for his continued commitment to Spitz Stadium,” says Robin Harper, General Manager of Recreation and Culture. “Sponsorships like this help reduce operational costs for taxpayers and maintain this great local ballpark.”
