Golf course records are far and few in between but is something that Glen Lengyel accomplished during a competition at Henderson Lake Golf Club recently.

Lengyel was playing in a Tony Roma’s best ball team competition on July 17 and shot a course record of 62.

Lengyel was nine under par through 11 holes before he kept running into what he termed close calls on the rest of the back nine and a challenge on Hole #16.

“I had a really tough break on 16,” said Lengyel.

“I drove … just right of the green and I was under the tree, so I made a bogey.”

Lengyel was aiming for a 59.

“I felt like I was playing good enough but then I finished par, par and yeah 62,” said Lengyel.

“It kind of felt like it could’ve been a lot better, but it was an awesome, awesome day, like that course is not like a type of course that you go super low on. So (it is) kind of cool to be in control of your game.”

Lengyel  felt he got a glimpse of what greatness can take.

“I think it’s not anything special, it’s more just like consistent effort and belief,” he said.

Lengyel says it’s a testament to life in general.

“You get dealt a lot of blows in life and then if you … keep having a good attitude of never giving up and always working hard, it just happens,” said Lengyel.

Lengyel thought the course was playing good.

“It was a pretty good scoring day,” said Lengyel.

“There was a little bit of breeze.”

Lengyel perhaps had luck on his side before he arrived at the first tee with the cart number took.

“The cart that we took, I didn’t know this until the end of the round, was No. 62,” said Lengyel.

“So I took a picture beside the cart, Cart  No. 62.”

It was only a few days later that Lengyel then won the club championship by one stroke at his member course at the Lethbridge Golf and Country Club with

“It was a crazy week of golf and (it) just kind of validated I think just my commitment to excellence and belief and good things happen when you don’t give up,” said Lengyel.
